Bent Type Glass Vials

Radius of Curve
The Radius or curve of all bent type vials is rigidly controlled so that the vials will give correct readings with minimum error. After being curved, each tube is checked for uniformity on templates before the vial is cut to length. The results of this inspection are vials that have very little variation in the bubble movement. For example, in a four or six glass level, if the bubble in one of the vials shows off level 1/16 inch either vertical or horizontal position, all the vials will give the same reading. Regarding radius or curve of vials, it is well to remember that the larger the radius, the more accurately the vials will show deviations from true level; however, vials of great accuracy are termed slow by the trade as the bubble takes longer to settle.

Strains
In the curving of tube and in forming of the vials to shape, great strains are introduced in the glass and, unless removed, will cause breakage in the finished product. All our bent type vials are fully annealed in an electrically heated and controlled furnace, to remove strains and temper the glass properly.

Fluids
For our rigid requirements, only the most satisfactory anhydrous fluids are used, the fluid used being determined to a great extent by the applications of the vial. Several different alcohols and hydrocarbons are in use, each for a specific application. After filling, the vials are kept at a constant temperatures of 70 to 72 degrees F. in a temperature controlled room. Each vial is measured individually for bubble size before sealing. We have formulated our own fluorescent colors and use only certified materials, to insure consistency of shade and prevent separation. Periodic Sun Light tests and age records are also performed.

Testing and Inspection
Every phase of operation is completely and accurately controlled, to insure a product that will meet your requirements.

About W. A. Moyer Company

Over the years, the W.A. Moyer name has become synonymous with the ultimate in quality in the manufacture of tubular glass level vials. From the most common carpenter’s level to a one-of-a-kind aerospace guidance system, there is a Moyer vial for every application. Continuous research provides innovation in both product design and manufacture, resulting in increased customer benefits. One example is our sealing process; a patented metallic or adhesive seal protects the glass end and offers shock resistance.

Each vial produced is subjected to extensive testing at each phase of the manufacturing process. It guarantees consistent quality from the oldest and most respected name in the manufacture of tubular glass level vials.

Our customers have the assurance of over 120 years of knowledge and dependability behind our products.
